The Health Care Debate Hits The Granite State

By Laura Knoy on Sunday, August 9, 2009.

As Portsmouth prepares for a health care town hall with President Obama, Congress continues to weigh several approaches to the issue. We’ll untangle all of them, from health care co-ops to a public option, and we’ll hear what questions you’d ask the President.

President Obama visit- health care

President Obama has stated his goals are: Keep your present insurance if you want to, insure everyone, and reduce costs. Private insurers will not cover high risk people without commensurately higher cost which may be unaffordable to those people. It doesn’t seem feasible to insure everyone without a strong public option. If we do cover everyone, the cost to the insurer may be affordable, but the taxpayer may pay higher taxes. Since these three goals are in tension, which will he “throw under the bus” if the health care reform is deadlocked?

Hi! I just tuned in. If you

Hi! I just tuned in. If you haven't asked this already, please ask if the problem of extremely high salaries of doctors and all other health care workers are going to be capped or reduced as a part of health care reform and control. As well, will malpractice insurance and lawsuits be capped?
I ask this because while the rest of us in this country are struggling with reduced salaries and reduced or NO jobs, it seems that the health care industry is the only industry that is NOT suffering, AND we are still paying through the nose for healthcare and health insurance! Please please please address this.
Thanks! :)

Health Care Reform

I'm jumping into the middle of the program, so perhaps you've already discussed this issue:

How come tort reform does not seem to be entering the national health care debate very much. Physicians' malpractice insurance costs certainly contribute greatly to overall health care costs.

Health Care Reform

A good reference on topic:
The book: Redefining Health Care by Michael Porter and Elizabeth Olmstead Teisberg

Topic: a system based on patient outcomes and value based competition; concepts that will lower the cost of health care, and reasoning that suggests that a single payer system (government top-down) will probably lack the incentives and flexibility necessary for a viable and healthy health care system.

Healthcare "protests" and single-payer

First, I agree with the caller who was appalled by the disruptions during town hall meetings when reps/senators are trying to explain health care reform. Laura Knoy compared this to Iraq War protests. What?? People should be allowed to hear what their representatives have to say. Disrupting them from speaking is not "protest" it's simply childish, rude and selfish behavior.
Furthermore, thousands of doctors in this country support single-payer. Most democratic, economically-stable countries around the world provide single-payer which covers every citizen. We need single-payer, but the majority are too stupid to see it because they've been brainwashed by a corporate media that is busy protecting its own interests/profits. socialism, government run everything

Please inform the Obama clan,we do not want goverment run health care,no matter how he spins it....it is what it is.....healthcare does need some reform, but we have to get the goverment out of our way,so American's through capitialism can get the country going again
we need tax cuts,No cap-n-trade,less goverment control, and a government who really cares about AMERICA.....not change our country into communism
