Joe Pernice's Debut Novel

By Virginia Prescott on Wednesday, August 5, 2009.

Since the early ‘90s, indie musician Joe Pernice has released nearly a dozen records, with the Scud Mountain Boys, Chappaquiddick Skyline, and The Pernice Brothers. He’s now written his first novel, titled It Feels So Good When I Stop.

The novel’s narrator is a 25-year-old floundering musician who leaves his marriage after just one day. He ends up looking after his two-year old nephew and getting involved with a troubled young woman in his neighborhood. It’s both coming-of-age novel and a love story, and a novel that begs for a soundtrack. There’s a companion album of Pernice covering songs mentioned in the book.

Joe Pernice reads from his book and plays some songs on Thursday at the Brattle Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts and he joins us for a preview.
