Saving the Cypress

Backyard gardens are making a comeback. That’s bumping up demand at garden stores for red mulch, which keeps weeds down and soil moist.

Cypress mulch could have some unintended consequences.
Cypress trees, some of them gigantic and ancient, line Louisiana’s swamps and form an important storm barrier along the Gulf Coast. Living on Earth's Andrew Stelzer traveled to Louisiana to investigate why some are protesting the sale of fiber from those trees.
