Preaching to the Wired

By Todd Bookman on Monday, August 3, 2009.

Today, we offer a benediction about Sister Julie Vieira. She spends much of her day connecting with God as a Roman Catholic nun in Michigan. In her free time, she blogs.

At anunslife.org, Sister Julie writes about her experiences and comments on current happenings like Michael Jackson’s death and recent New Yorker articles. She also answers questions from readers. Queries from site visitors range from “Can nuns keep pets?” (NO, it turns out) to “I’ve heard my calling…now what should I do?”

Her posts, along with the dozens of other blogs run by religious orders around the world, offer a glimpse of a nun’s day-to-day life in the 21st century.

The Vatican’s ‘new media’ department is keeping up: the Pope now has his own YouTube channel.
