Music From A Tree

By Avishay Artsy on Friday, July 17, 2009.

Here at Word of Mouth we love the idea of making music with unconventional objects. We've brought you stories of singing plants, musical vegetables, and percussion music made with bridges. So it's only natural that we should get excited about the idea of making music with a tree.

There's no processing or digital manipulation, just the sounds of a tree in Diego Stocco's backyard. He tuned the twigs by trimming them with a pencil sharpener, and used two microphones, combined with a customized stethoscope. He writes, "All the sounds come from playing the tree, by bowing the twigs, shaking the leaves, playing rhythms on the cortex and so on."
