Future of Alt-Energy Cars

By Virginia Prescott on Thursday, May 21, 2009.

There are few things that automakers and politicians agree on these days, but they are both paying attention to President Obama’s mandate: If there’s going to be a future for American cars, it’s got to be green.

But what are the energy efficient vehicles of the future? Hybrids, electrics, flex fuels, plug-in hybrids, bio-fuels… the list gets confusing pretty fast. As New Hampshire Public Radio continues its weeklong series on Our Energy Future, it seemed like the right time to step back and sort all this out. To do that, we called Michael Kannellos. He’s a senior policy analyst for Green Tech Media and a regular guest here on Word of Mouth. We asked him to give me a rundown of some of the options, beginning with the plug-in hybrid.
