The Fingerprints of God

By Virginia Prescott on Thursday, May 21, 2009.

Is there more than this? That question led Barbara Bradley Hagerty on an investigation of spirituality, science, consciousness and skepticism. As NPR’s religion correspondent, Barbara covered the polarization of faith and science during the George W. Bush years. Privately, a pivotal experience left her wondering if she’d felt the presence of God.

Barbara Bradley Hagerty’s curiosity brought her to Native American peyote ceremonies and labs where researchers were beginning to acknowledge that maybe, just maybe, the universe could contain spiritual realities along with scientific principles. Those questions, and her own faith, are explored in her new book, The Fingerprints of God: The Search for the Science of Spirituality. Barbara Bradley Hagerty joins us from NPR in Washington.
