Dancing Parrots and Grass-Eating Goats

By Martha Poole on Monday, May 4, 2009.

GoatsGoogle is now taking a low-carbon approach to lawn maintenance: goats. This summer, Google will rent a herd of goats to clip and fertilize the grass at their headquarters in Mountain View, California. The web giant says it was motivated by eco-friendliness, relatively low costs, and the fact that “goats are a lot cuter to watch than lawn mowers."

And in other animal news, scientists are discovering that humans aren’t the only species that can groove to a beat. Their evidence? You-tube videos of dancing pet birds. Frame-by-frame analysis of these videos indicates that some animals may have a sense of rhythm similar to humans.
