Stories of Growing Up

By Abby Goldstein on Monday, March 23, 2009.

Today on Word of Mouth, we’re going to hear exclusively from new voices. All over the country, budding young producers are teaming up with public radio mentors to learn the tools of the broadcast trade. And these kids have some incredible stories to tell. We’ll hear from a young man who divorced his mother and moved across the country in search of his freedom. We’ll hear from a college senior who tried to leave her past behind, but was happy to fail. A student in Michigan explains why government jobs are suddenly appealing to eager graduates. And we’ll ask that age-old question: What do you want to be when you grow up? We begin the show with a serious look at one teenager’s story of Ritalin abuse. The drug is supposed to treat Attention Deficit Disorder, but when this young man found out how to get high with it, he started going through his pills quickly. Guest host Abby Goldstein fills-in for Virginia Prescott today.
