High Mileage Love
By Virginia Prescott on Thursday, February 12, 2009.
Ever been so besotted with someone you’d travel a thousand miles just to tell them so? Well, if you’re walking those miles, please feel free to continue your swoon. But if you’re taking to the roads or the airways to get love’s door, step away from the gas nozzle, put down that frequent flier card. This segment is for you. Barron Youngsmith, a writer for Slate and The New Republic, decided to calculate the environmental toll of the long distance love affair. His findings? Let’s just say they could do for high-mileage love what mandatory calorie disclosures did for the quarter pounder. Barron joins us from Washington, D.C. with more.
