Newsmakers of the Year 2008: Tornadoes and Ice Storms

On the night of Thursday, December 11th, heavy precipitation, along with temperatures that hovered around the freezing mark, created one of the state's worst-ever ice storms. In town after town in the southern half of the state, ice accumulation sent heavy tree limbs crashing down on power lines, leaving over half of New Hampshire residents without power. Many would not have lights or heat for days - some even for weeks. But this wasn't our state's only climatological harship of 2008; in July, a rare but powerful tornado cut a fifty mile swath of destruction that started in Deerfield and ended in Freedom. And in its path, the storm left many homes damaged or destroyed and one resident dead.
