Lynch Expects Continued Progress On Power Outages

By Dan Gorenstein on Monday, December 15, 2008.

Governor John Lynch says he believes by the end of the day one hundred thousand customers will be without power.

New Hampshire Public Radio's Dan Gorenstein reports.

Currently 155 thousand customers are without power. As of this afternoon, crews had restored power to 15 thousand customers, primarily residential homes.

The 1998 ice storm knocked out power for 65 thousand homes and businesses, and it took ten days to get everyone back online.

Governor Lynch says he expects utilities to make significant progress in the next several days.

"There'll be some clusters of customers who receive their power back today, tomorrow, the next day, and there may be customers in more rural areas where it's going to take longer for the power companies to restore power to them."

Over 500 work crews from as far as Maryland and Tennesee are here.

Lynch says utility companies believe they have as many crews as they can safely manage.

The governor also said dozens of people have sought medical attention for carbon monoxide poisoning from alternative heating sources.
