Officials Warn About Carbon Monoxide After Death in Danville

By Mark Bevis on Saturday, December 13, 2008.

Officials are warning New Hampshire residents to use caution if they are relying on portable generators for electricity.

A Danville man died of carbon monoxide poisoning after he hooked up his generator during the ice storm.

The Northern New England Poison Control Center advises people to never use generators in enclosed or partially enclosed areas such as garages, basements, and crawl spaces. They also recommend installing battery-powers carbon monoxide alarms close to sleeping areas and on all levels of your home. Always follow manufacturer's instructions for installation and operation of a generator.

The signs of carbon monoxide poisoning include headache, fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea and dizziness. If you are using a portable generator and experience these symptoms get outside immediately and call 911.
