Even before the terrorist attacks, NH Health and Human Services Department was making plans to deal with bio-terrorism. The Department selected several communities this past summer to form the core of what will be the NH Health Alert Network. The coalition is expected to receive up to 96 thousand dollars from federal and private sources over the next 2 years. Those funds will be earmarked for a pilot program to help communities deal with disease outbreak, natural disasters and bioterrorism. Dr. William Kassler is the state's Medical Director and he will be overseeing the project. He described to NHPR's Lisa Peakes how the network will operate.
