Bosse, a former aide to Senator John Sununu, ran on a platform that emphasized cuts in government spending. He attributed his loss to a lack of campaign funds.

"We did what we could with what we had, but there's a saying in New Hampshire that if it doesn't happen on Channel 9 it doesn't happen, and not being able to get up with TV ads is a handicap. And it looks like we weren't able to overcome that."

The top two contenders in the Republican second district primary, Bob Clegg and Jennifer Horn, ran television ads.

Horn, a former newspaper columnist and talk show host, topped the field and will challenge incumbent Democrat Paul Hodes in the general election.
