The Nashua resident carried her home city by more than 1000 votes.

That plus a good showing in the western portion of the state helped Horn beat long-time lawmaker Bob Clegg.

Going into the race, Clegg easily had higher name recognition than any of the other four candidates.

When asked to explain their support for Horn, voters at her election night rally cited their preference for someone with a fresh face.

In her acceptance speech, Horn repeated the phrase we can do better.

It was a direct shot at Democratic Congressman Paul Hodes.

"This Congress has failed the American people. And Paul Hodes has failed the families of NH. What have we gotten from Paul Hodes? For over 18 months, he has offered us nothing more than partisan rhetoric, glossy mailers and partisan politic."

In a statement from the Democratic Party, officials said “her campaign consists of a Muzak of conservative clichés."
