The New Look of Milk
By Vanessa Valdes on Tuesday, August 5, 2008.
Sam's Club is at the forefront of a milk revolution of sorts: the retailer has pushed for a greener revamp of the traditional milk jug that features a flatter spout and a squared-off look. ![]() According to the store's press release, the new shape maximizes fridge space, makes for more efficient shipping (no crates required), and saves buyers a few cents. So far, only Costco, Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores have adopted the redesigned container, with the goal of more widespread distribution. The only obvious downside so far: It may not be the most spill-proof design. In fact, some retailers carrying the new gallons are actually offering pouring demonstrations for befuddled consumers, according to this New York Times article.
