A Magazine for Snobs
By Jacob Eaton on Monday, April 28, 2008.
Mikhail Prokhorov, a Russian billionaire whose wealth is estimated around $22 billion, plans to set up a magazine, website and television channel that cater to his crowd – the superrich. The magazine will be called Snob, and it’s directed toward “people who are successful and those who want to be successful,” Andrei Shmarov, who will run the company, told Reuters. It will focus on the lifestyles of the superrich, along with business news and travel information. The first issue is expected to hit stands this summer, with the TV channel to debut shortly afterwards. According to Shmarov, the word “snob” doesn’t have exactly the same meaning in Russian as it does in English. "Snob to us means a person who is a 'self-made man,' a person who has gained a right to snobbishness," he said. The magazine purportedly cost $150 million to establish. There is no word yet on the price per issue. Click here to read the Reuters article. (Photo by Aldric van Gaver) Search usPodcastWord of Mouth is on the move! Don't we already have a magazine "directed toward people who are successful and those who want to be successful"? Isn't it called Vanity Fair?
