Who's Gonna Pay for Hannafords' Security Breach?
By Barbara Cariddi on Wednesday, March 19, 2008.
Earlier this week the supermarket chain Hannafords announced that some 4 point 2 million of its customers' credit and debit card numbers were exposed and at least 18 hundred stolen by hackers. No personal information, like names and addresses, was taken, but the breach involved all of the chains 165 stores in the northeast. Consumers, banks, and credit card companies are still trying to figure out how much damage was done and who's going to have to pay for it. Maine Public Radio's Barbara Cariddi reports from Portland.

As a techie, I'd like to know exactly what happened. But I am sure that Hannaford will always have an excuse not to say. It is normally a preferred practice to own up to what went wrong, and all the excuses in the world won't convince me that someone didn't screw up big time.
