Bats Are Dying from Something Mysterious

In bat caves in New York and Vermont, a mystery is lurking. Sounds like the beginning of a comic book, but according to wildlife biologists this mystery isn't funny. It's called White Nose syndrome and it's killing bats by the thousands. Emily Brunkhurst is a biologist with the non-game and endangered wildlife program at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. She described the symptoms to NHPR's Mark Bevis. Web resources:

Increasing UV-B radiation may be responsible for the deaths of many "indicator species" including bats, bees and amphibians. Immune systems are being depressed, normal growth and development stunted and genetic mutation caused by UV-B.
