Rent-a-Pet

By Andrew Walsh on Sunday, March 2, 2008.

Love dogs, but hate commitment? No problem! Now you can simply rent a dog for a while, then give it back when you're done. Word of Mouth intern Jacob Eaton offers this explanation:

"A new company called FlexPetz will soon be allowing members to rent a dog for a day, a weekend, or even a full week in several locations throughout the US and Britain. The company is one of several emerging programs allowing those with limited time, space or money a getaway with man’s best friend. The dogs come fully trained and socialized, and payment includes food and a GPS tracking collar. You can even check out their profiles online."

Turns out, Stray Rescue of St. Louis uses a rent-a-pet program to help find homes for needy animals. Here's a link.
