When I go to the store and pick out a bottle of wine, I usually have to decide whether I want something cheap, or something that’s fancier but costs more. Well, new research shows that it’s a more complicated choice.

Scientists at Stanford and Caltech asked research subjects to taste wines with a range of prices. Only, the wine was all the same. The subjects consistently reported that the more expensive wine tasted better, even though the wine was identical. Word of Mouth's Virginia Prescott spoke with science writer Jonah Lehrer, who wrote about this in The Boston Globe's Ideas section. Jonah?s the editor-at-large for Seed Magazine and the author of "Proust Was a Neuroscientist."

As a supporter of NHPR I have to share my disappointment at your replacing Talk of the Nation with this program. I find this program frivoulous. I have enjoyed Talk of the Nation for many years. It brings a national prespective to current events affecting our country. Especially at this point in the national election process I would rather hear from the political junkie, and Neal Cohen than listen to these soft stories. Please reconsider this program change.

Perhpas Word of Mouth would better fit in your evening programming.

Thank you for your consideration.

responding to the comment regarding talk of the nation a better choice...GOD NO! i NEED something diverting amid all the news on the news...i need news of wonder and science and silliness and things that we don't hear about on the news. i want someone looking around the region and the planet for information that celebrates all things unique and different. that's my vote.
