The Fairpoint/Verizon Deal
By Laura Knoy on Friday, February 29, 2008.
Fairpoint, a North Carolina based telecom company, will soon take over Verizon’s land-based telephone and internet network in northern New England. Vermont and Maine agreed to the deal earlier in the year but New Hampshire’s Public Utility Commission didn’t agree until Monday. Opponents worry the acquisition is too financially risky for the state, but those who supported the deal think it will do a lot for New Hampshire, especially in the struggling North Country. We’ll break down the deal and how it may affect the state. Guests

paul corrao, m.d. In order to save time and expedite the identification of NHPR, I suggest the word "dorg" to replace and combine the words "dotorg", which Laura, especially, can't seem to say fast enough. As far as I can tell, "dorg" does not yet exist, is memorable, easily spelled, etc., and may well be a real contribution to the language and the medium. Actually, its quite striking- don't you think? In time the whole country will come to identify it with NHPR. I kind of fancy the ring of it- NHPRDORG- don't you? Beats NHPRDOTORG by a mile! Just a hopefully helpful suggestion from a perennial wanabebutneveram participant from (God help us!) dreaded Maine! Regards, PC
How does this relate to Charter which seems to have the monopoly in our area of Grafton CT...along the CT River? Will there be competition? Will Comcast enter this area?
Internet consumers need only broadband download speeds.
Internet business who produce content need UPLOAD SPEEDS!!!
Most Cable & DSL offer high download speeds but content producers have to pay a premium for the high upload speeds.
NH should invest in Fiber just as it should invest more in education - it will pay huge economic dividends.
