Suggest a nonprofit for Giving Matters

The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and New Hampshire Public Radio have for the past six years produced short radio spots demonstrating the positive impacts of local nonprofit organizations. We have featured over 140 nonprofits to date, with powerful stories of the work that charitable groups do to strengthen communities and enrich lives. Last fall, this partnership became Giving Matters, a weekly nonprofit series airing at 8:35 a.m. on Saturday mornings.  We are soliciting new nonprofit story ideas at this time for the Giving Matters series.

Nonprofits wishing to be considered must submit a form which provides:

  • Name of Organization
  • Town/Area Served (or Statewide)
  • Contact Name
  • Contact Number
  • E-mail Address
  • Organization’s Web Site Address (if any)
  • Brief Description of the Work of the Organization
  • Suggested Story and Storyteller(s)

Download the form (Word .doc format)

We are interested in participant, donor, service recipient, or constituent perspectives, which may be augmented as appropriate with comments by an organization staff member or spokesperson.  We have found that personal stories by people who can speak comfortably about their own first-hand experiences make the best spots.

An advisory committee selects those organizations whose proposed stories best convey the contributions and human face of the sector to listeners, while reflecting a range of subject matter, geography, voice, and perspective.  Those groups chosen to participate are pre-interviewed by writer Lois Shea, who spearheads production of the stories.  Participating individuals will generally be expected to come to the NHPR studios in Concord to record their stories.

These radio spots are designed to create a positive face for the sector as a whole, and to give people a reason to care about nonprofits and their work in New Hampshire. This series does not seek to raise money for specific groups, or to promote nonprofit events.

Organizations that submitted a story idea in fall 2007 but were not selected may be considered anew without resubmitting a new proposed story.  However, groups may submit a new form if they wish.  Organizations that were just featured this past year in the Giving Matters series are not eligible to reapply at this time.  These are:
