Psychiatrist Says New HBO Program Gets it Right

By Andrew Walsh on Monday, January 28, 2008.

HBO unveils its brand new series In Treatment tonight. The show focuses on one psychiatrist – Dr. Paul Weston – and his regular patients. The show will run Monday through Friday, and each episode will center around one of his office visits. (Friday’s episodes will feature Dr. Weston’s appointments with his own psychiatrist.)

Real-life psychiatrist Glen Gabbard analyzes the new show in Slate today. He says the show’s creators have accomplished what most networks haven’t been able to over the years: They’ve made the psychiatry practice both realistic AND enjoyable to watch.

You can read Dr. Gabbard’s article here. But if you want a second opinion, check out this review from the SF Chronicle. Reviewer Tim Goodman says the show is anything but interesting.
