Republican U.S. Senator John Sununu
By Laura Knoy on Tuesday, January 15, 2008.
Senator Sununu joins us in studio to talk about what Congress did – and did not – accomplish in the past year. We’ll cover an array of issues…including Sununu’s votes on the energy bill, the Iraq War and children’s health legislation. Guest

If we need a biometric identification why can not the social security card be upgraded to serve the purpose of worker identification, identification to board aircraft, to enter government buildings, to cross from Canada, and to serve as voter identification?

I listened with great frustration as Senator Sununu fudged about his vote on the recent energy bill.
While he did not vote for tax subsidies for Big Oil, he - nonetheless - voted to continue the $13 billion tax break that they receive. If this break had been repealed, the monies would have been allocated for renewable energy.
Therefore, while he is technically correct that he did not vote for more subsidies, by voting against the repeal of the tax breaks Big Oil receives he - effectively - voted for the continuing boondoggle for Big Oil.
Laura Knoy tried to be 'crystal clear' about this with the Senator, but he fudged and obfuscated the issue.
This pirouetting is known among us hoi polloi as 'legalese.'
