A celebration took place in the North Country today. After years of negotiations between conservationists, corporate landowners, and federal and state agencies, the Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge has officially expanded to nearly a thousand acres. Today marked the transfer of 670 acres from the Hancock Timber Resource Group to land already controlled by the Audubon Society and the state's Fish and Game Department. David Govatsky has volunteered for years as manager of the Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge. He tells NHPR's Mark Bevis the public is benefitting from much more than just a transfer of land.
