Jeffrey Eugenides Knows Love

By Andrew Walsh on Monday, January 7, 2008.

Best-selling Author Jeffrey Eugenides is offering-up a new anthology love stories from a broad range of writers. It's called My Mistress's Sparrow Is Dead: Great Love Stories, from Chekhov to Munro.

Reviews have been glowing, including the one from the folks at the Very Short List:

This handsome new anthology contains 26 exhilarating and heartache-producing love stories written by familiar masters (Chekhov, Faulkner, Joyce, Nabokov) as well as some new ones (Denis Johnson, Miranda July, Lorrie Moore, Eileen Chang). From the early-adolescent longing in Stuart Dybek’s ‘We Didn’t’ to the crushing choices made in Alice Munro's ‘The Bear Came Over the Mountain’ (the basis for last year’s film Away From Her), each tale chips away at the mysteries of the human heart.

UPDATE (2/14/2007): We spoke with Jeffrey Eugenedes on Word of Mouth for Valentine's Day. You can listen to the segment here.

You can read a short Q&A with Eugenides about the project at the book’s Amazon.com page. Click here.
