New Hampshire's state legislature is used to handling deadlines, but one put down by the Supreme Court in 2006 made 2007 an especially interesting year at the State House. After decades of legal wrangling over defining and adequate education in the state, the court gave lawmakers an ultimatum: find a way to do it, or we may do it ourselves. The court set a deadline of July 1st of this year; it seemed to work and the legislature agreed on a definition several days before the due date.
