Activists Launch Write-In Campaign For Gore
By Dan Gorenstein on Thursday, December 20, 2007.
Grassroots activists have launched a campaign to write-in Al Gore on the New Hampshire ballot. New Hampshire Public Radio's Dan Gorenstein reports. The Draft Gore group wants Al Gore to become the next president for one reason. Organizer Farrell Seiler says the country needs a leader who will make global warming more than just another issue. "They'll talk about Iraq, they'll talk about health care, they'll talk about jobs - nothing wrong with those issues, but we want candidates to look at global warming as the central organizing theme of their campaign." Seiler says there's a core group of supporters who plan to spend the next three weeks compiling voter lists, phone banking and sign waving. He doesn't expect to win, but Seiler says he's hoping for a respectable third or fourth place finish. Last fall Gore told reporters he doesn't have plans to be a candidate again. It sems to me that if you want Al Gore to seriously think about running for president then you will have to create that demand from the populace. And to create a demand for something, the populace has to share your concerns. One way to share concerns is to see under one roof, one cover so to speak what you see. |
