Clinton Picks Up New Hampshire NEA Endorsement
By Josh Rogers on Thursday, December 6, 2007.
Campaigning in Manchester yesterday, Hillary Clinton picked up the backing of the New Hampshire chapter of the National Education Association. New Hampshire Public Radio's Josh Rogers reports. With 16 thousand members, the New Hampshire NEA is the state's largest union. NEA leaders say Hillary Clinton won their support with her positions on education and health care. After accepting the endorsement, Clinton pledged that as president she'd be a good partner with teachers and schools across the country. "I believe that the federal government has a role to play in helping individual districts and states achieve a level of facility and teacher preparedness and adequacy that will enable a school to function at the highest possible level." The NEA met with four other Democratic hopefuls before it gave Clinton their backing. In a first, the largely Democratic union will also endorse a Republican candidate, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who was the sole GOP hopeful to meet with union officials.
