John Edwards told seniors at an AARP luncheon that voters need to pay attention to policies based on the needs of the people and not on polls.

Edwards went on to chide Hillary Clinton for refusing to spell out how she thinks Social Security should be fixed.

"I think we have a responsibility as presidential candidates, and as a president, to lead on these issues, not to wait and see what the waters feel like. We have a responsibility to lead."

Hillary Clinton has criticized both John Edwards and Barack Obama for proposing Social Security changes prior to building bipartisan consensus.

Edwards says he'd shore up Social Security by raising taxes on people earning more than 200 thousand dollars a year.
