Somersworth resident Leland Eisenberg is in custody as the suspect in Friday's hostage crisis.

NHPR's coverage of this event was named 2007 Best Breaking News by the New Hampshire Associated Press Broadcasters Association.

Eisenberg has been accused of taking 4 adults and a child as hostages when he walked into Senator Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign office in Rochester.

He reportedly told his hostages he had a bomb strapped to his waist.

But New Hampshire State Police Colonel Frederick Booth said the device was a hoax.

"It appears he had strapped to him regular road flares that were actually duct taped to him, and he was holding a detonator to make it look like it was a EOD device."

The crisis ended peacefully after 6 hours when Eisenberg released the last of the hostages and then turned himself in.

Senator Clinton has credited local authorities for the successful outcome and planned a trip to New Hampshire to thank them personally.
