Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich said Tuesday in Concord that it's ludicrous for the federal government to continue subsidizing the oil, coal and nuclear power industries.
New Hampshire Public Radio's David Darman has more.
Dennis Kucinich told the crowd at a symposium to end the nation's reliance on fossil fuels and nuclear energy that the government's focus on these technologies is entirely misplaced.
The Ohio Congressman told them if he's elected, he'll get the government moving toward a massive investment in renewable energy.
"Imagine if we used the productive capacity of America and create millions of jobs, building wind and solar microtechnologies, which we then applied to tens of millions of homes and businesses, as well as to insulate those homes and businesses. We could create jobs, prime the pump of the economy, lower our energy costs and lower our use of carbon-based energy."
Kucinich says he thinks this kind of investment would keep the nation from getting into wars like the one in Iraq.
He says other candidates, Democratic and Republican, are proposing building new nuclear power plants or drilling for oil off the Alaska coast.
