A Commitment to the Arts and Culture of Our Region
By Betsy Gardella on Friday, November 16, 2007.
Dear Front Porch Listeners – Liz Bulkley – Shay Zeller – John Walters... For almost seven years these three familiar voices brought you to NHPR’s Front Porch, and conversations about the art and culture of our region. From stories about the fine craft of the wooden spoon, to fascinating conversations with musicians like Ryan Montbleau or They Might Be Giants, to explorations of the most important literature of the past and modern day… 6:30 PM became your time to delve into the rich artistic and cultural tapestry of New England and beyond. We here at NHPR wish a fond farewell to The Front Porch and thank all of our hosts, producers, guests, and you, for your dedication and loyalty to telling these stories through the years. As do the arts, our programming is evolving. We value the role The Front Porch played in our weekday line up and we will continue to enrich and advance the cultural and artistic literacy of the state in a variety of ways. New BBC Programs – 6:30 Weeknights At Sounding Boards throughout the state this past year, we heard over and over again that our evening BBC programming is highly valued. Starting November 26th, NHPR will air an exciting collection of BBC programs focusing on new and emerging trends, literature, film, the environment and science. All of these programs will offer the signature BBC style and global perspective, and we are thrilled to be able to offer this interesting and engaging content. Expanded Arts and Cultural Programming 2008 will bring innovative offerings in both local, national, and worldwide arts and cultural programming and coverage. We are developing some exciting initiatives that will carry on the spirit of The Front Porch in a fresh and surprising ways. Keep your ear tuned to the dial for more information as the Spring of 2008 approaches! Thank you so much for your many years of loyalty to The Front Porch and NHPR. The promise of public radio to advance the arts in our state is great, and we take our role seriously. We look forward to many more years celebrating the arts with you. All the very best, Betsy Gardella
