Republican John McCain says Rudy Giuliani's former police commissioner Bernard Kerik was irresponsible when he worked for US government in Iraq.
McCain's criticism comes on the same day as Kerik surrendered to authorities to face corruption and tax charges in New York.
New Hampshire Public Radio's Josh Rogers has more.
John McCain began his day at a Concord stop with former Homeland Security director Tom Ridge.
Both men questioned Rudy Giuliani's judgment in pushing for Bernard Kerik to be Ridge's successor as the nation's top security official.
Kerik's bid for that post was ultimately scuttled by his legal problems, but McCain said Kerik's performance in Iraq, shortly after the toppling of Saddam Hussein, should have raised red flags.
"Supposedly his mission was to help train Iraqi police... he stayed a couple months and up and left. That should have been part of anybody's judgment before they would recommend that individual to be head of the Department of Homeland Security."
Rudy Giuliani has said he made a mistake by not looking more closely at Kerik, whose ties to the former New York Mayor include stints as his driver, Police Commissioner and business partner.
