For months, Republican presidential candidates have singled out Hillary Clinton for criticism. Now, her Democratic rivals, including John Edwards, are likely to draw sharp distinctions.
New Hampshire Public Radio’s Jon Greenberg has more.
Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards attracted nearly 300 people to the town hall in Exeter last night. He emphasized that voters have a choice and that he and Hillary Clinton do not agree on some key points.
On Iraq, he said he would withdraw all combat troops within about 9 months of taking office. In contrast, he said Clinton left open the possibility of keeping some combat troops there indefinitely.
Edwards said the influence of corporate lobbyists erodes the integrity of both Republicans and Democrats and gave this example – a meeting of Rural Americans for Hillary that is scheduled for today.
CUT Where is she having it? Inside the beltway in Washington D.C. It’s being held at the chief lobbyist for Monsanto. I mean, there’s something wrong with this picture.
A spokesman for the Clinton campaign countered that Edwards has accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from law firms that employ lobbyists and asked, if he’s that concerned, why doesn’t he return their money?
Edwards, Clinton and most of the Democratic candidates debate each other tonight in Philadelphia.
