Dodd Optimistic About New Hampshire Primary

By David Darman on Thursday, October 18, 2007.

Democrat Christopher Dodd is the latest candidate to officially enter New Hampshire's Presidential Primary.

The Connecticut Senator says he has confidence that he can pull out a victory in New Hampshire despite being far behind in the polls.

Dodd bases that confidence on the story of his friend, former Senator Gary Hart.

The then Colorado Senator defied expectations to win the 1984 primary.

Dodd had to ask New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner just how far behind Hart had been leading up to that election.

Dodd: "What happened in '84 - do you remember the numbers? Was Gary Hart - how was he doing prior to getting..."

Gardner: "He was in single digits, he was in single digits..."

Dodd: "Well, there you go, I rest my case."

Though Dodd says he has a chance in New Hampshire, he recently moved much of his staff here to Iowa.

The candidate says he's putting his staff where they're most needed, and that he is certainly not writing off New Hampshire.
