Democrat Hillary Clinton says the nation must work towards granting all US workers some form of paid medical and family leave.

Clinton's goal is part of what her campaign is calling her "agenda for American families."

The New York Senator laid out the plan at a stop at Manchester's YWCA.

"Parental leave rules may give many families time off, but families of modest means too often simply can't afford to take it unless that leave is paid. I believe we should set a goal of every family in America being able to take time off when their children are born or adopted, and at least some of that time should be paid leave for those who need it."

Clinton says she'd spend a billion dollars a year to help states develop paid leave programs. She says dropping the federal threshold for unpaid leave would immediately extend that benefit to 13 million more Americans.
