Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney today told reporters he wasn't shy about lending money to his campaign.

But the former Massachusetts Governor said he wasn't sure exactly how much he'd put in.

Web resources:

"Obviously I'm investing in my own campaign. Writing checks is always painful for me, no matter what it's for, but I nonetheless recognize this is a critical race."

Aides say Romney lent his campaign 8.5 million dollars during the latest three month reporting period.

They also say that brings his total investment to 17.5 million for the year.

Despite the spending, Romney has lost ground in the latest poll of New Hampshire voters.

His support dropped 10 percent from July, according to the UNH Survey Center.

But Romney says he likes his chances in the state, since he remains one of three Republicans who are leading the poll.
