Clinton Speaks To Manchester Central Grads

By Brian Early on Thursday, June 14, 2007.

Manchester's Central High School, the state's oldest, had never had a Presidential candidate give the commencement address... until last night.

New York Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton spoke at the graduation ceremony.

NHPR correspondent Brian Early was there and has this report.

The Democratic presidential hopeful was warmly welcomed at Central's graduation, held at the Verizon Center.

Clinton reminisced about her struggles when she first left home for college, far away from home.

"I just wasn't sure I would ever fit in... I felt a little out of place, and studies were hard, I'll never forget my French professor saying to me, 'Mademoiselle, your talents lie elsewhere,' and I was sure that it just wasn't going to work."

She reminded students that our similarities are much more important than her differences. Her speech was apolitical, and she kept the focus of her speech on the graduating class. And she personally shook each graduate's hand after they received their diploma.
