The Spouse Factor

The spouse factor--its real. Much of what is driving voters in this democratic primary is the desire to put up a candidate who has a solid chance at beating Bush. That's why the recent NY Times article on the other Dr. Dean, has me concerned. West Wing comparisons aside, Mrs. Dean's choice to pretty much stay out of Howard's campaign kitchen, probably adds an element of risk to a matchup with George and Laura. If Iowa and NH go as forecasted and Dean emerges as the solid leader, the bright lights will find Mrs. Dean. Will the story of a busy professional with her own schedule, and her own goals, choosing not to actively support her spouse in this most ambitious undertaking be a positive or negative. Around our office the Dean leaners looked at each other and said the obvious positive cut (the West Wing scenario) at this tricky and personal factor would eventually win out--they hoped.
