The Capture vs The Campaign???
When chatting with an 81 year old about the capture of Saddam Husein yesterday and the affect of the campaigns, her response was "The world does not revolve around the campaigns. In fact, I am appalled at the media feeling a need to combine the two together! We have military personnel who are still risking their lives on our behalf and all we can think about is campaign strategy!" After shaking her head, she also shared that she preferred the good ol' days when information was not so readily available and that you had to READ in order to be informed.
Speaking of media vs being informed, I sat down with a group of individuals late last week and asked how they thought the campaigns and preparation for the caucus was playing out. Resoundingly, the opinion was that there is too much coverage and too many sound bites and that the majority of America has become lazy about "reading up" on candidates to form an opinion. Personally, I agree. I become so inundated with TV, radio, and newspaper coverage that I wonder who the REAL candidates are, what their opinions really are vs what makes people react!
P.S. How did campaigns run in the "old days"??
