Just checking in
Hello, my name is Beth and I'm a primary-aholic. It's been three weeks since my last encounter with someone hoping to become President of the United States.
Sorry it's been so long since I last wrote, but life caught up with me and I really haven't had the time to go out in pursuit of anecdotes about the New Hampshire Primary. I've also discovered that my co-workers are in large apolitical (or Republican), which means keeping up-to-date on this blog has had some additional challenges of late.
I can let you know that I did have the opportunity to shake three more candidate's hands a couple of weeks ago. I attended the final Every Child Matters candidate forum in Durham and heard Dick Gephardt, Carol Moseley-Braun and Dennis Kucinich talk. They had to add chairs to the auditorium the Friday before when Governor Dean spoke; they removed rows from the back of the room as the afternoon wore on the day the final three spoke. I guess that's an indication of the popularity factor in play with the campaign.
I made the trip to Durham because I felt that it might be the only opportunity I would have to hear Moseley-Braun and Kucinich speak in person. It was worth the trip. There were a number of strong Kucinich supporters in the audience. His views on the issues are certainly different from the others; the feeling I got from the crowd was that it was good to have someone looking at the campaign from a different perspective, if nothing more than to keep the conversation going.
One woman that I sat close to was actually from Connecticut and had made the trip to hear the Moseley-Braun and Kucinich. She mentioned that she wished she had been able to make it up when Lieberman spoke because she hadn't seen much of him in Connecticut lately and that all his efforts were being placed in running for President and not in representing his home state.
That's about all I have time for right now. Again, I'm sorry that I've been so lax on keeping up with this. I really do believe that Im a primary groupie and it's frustrating not being able to be in the thick of it. Hopefully I'll get my chance later this week.
Until then
