Granite Envy and Fear

While in the Big Apple for a conference last week I was confronted by an old friend, who in jealous appreciation of my special status as a Granite Stater, sought to impress upon me the importance of supporting Wesley Clark--as the only candidate who has a chance with mainstream voters. I volleyed back citing Clark's lack of elected office experience, his questionable Democratic party heritage, never mind the inexperience with domestic issues. But this guy was convinced that we in NH were dreaming regarding Dean's acceptability to mainstream voters. As it turns out I think he was reacting more to Dean's momentum, although he was smitten by Clark. As we parted we sort-of agreed that maybe Kerry has a shot if he can warm up a bit.
