Republican Tommy Thompson campaigned in New Hampshire today.
The presidential hopeful told an audience in Bedford that leaders need to embrace innovative ideas to solve the nation's problems.
New Hampshire Public Radio's Josh Rogers has more.
Speaking at a Politics and Eggs event at the Bedford Village Inn, the former Wisconsin governor took credit for starting what he called two cultural revolutions in America: welfare reform and school choice.
Thompson added that no other candidate in the presidential field can match his passion for bold policies:
"And that's why I've decided to run, because I'm an individual that comes up with ideas. I believe in the power of ideas and I believe in the fact that the Republican Party lost in the last election because they got away from coming up with ideas."
Thompson says his ideas, be they for reforming health care or stabilizing Iraq, are based on his belief that government's role is to help people exercise greater control over their own affairs.
For NHPR News, I'm Josh Rogers.
