Republican presidential hopeful, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, campaigned in Derry tonight.

NHPR correspondent Brian Early reports.

Web resources:

The town hall meeting was billed as "Ask Mitt Anything," though major questions were not asked - no questions on Iraq, no questions on health care.

But Romney was asked about the national debt:

"I am a fiscal conservative. I believe in cutting spending and cutting taxes."

He proposes to cap discretionary, non-military spending at one percent under inflation.

Romney wants to increase military spending, increasing troop levels by one hundred thousand.

Romney also proposes an employment verification plan to combat illegal immigration. This way, he told the crowd of about 120, the government could easily verify if a company hires illegal immigrants.
