Dark, dreary skies reflect the mood of those getting ready to pay their final respects to Manchester Police Officer, Michael Briggs, who died Tuesday from a gunshot.

NHPR Correspondent Debra Daigle stopped by Lambert funeral home in Manchester and filed this report.

Groups of local and state police, as well as fire department crews, are gathered here at Lambert's Funeral Home on Elm Street, preparing for this evening's wake for slain officer Michael Briggs.

Briggs was killed in the line of duty earlier this week.

Elm Street, as well as several surrounding streets, are being closed to traffic in this entire area, in preparation for a police procession.

Approximately two hundred Manchester police officers, as well as some from other communities, will march in full police formation to the funeral parlor to pay their respects.

And, in anticipation of rainy weather, a huge tent has been set up across the street, for the hundreds of people expected to turn out at the wake of this officer everyone is calling a true hero.
