Deconstructing Bob Dylan
By Shay Zeller on Friday, August 11, 2006.
Bob Dylan long ago earned his place at the highest echelons of American pop culture. He's revered as a rocker, a folk singer, a poet and an icon. This weekend, top academics will gather on Dartmouth's campus to put Dylan's lyrics under the microscope. We'll find out what they're looking for and explore Dylan's written legacy. Our Guests Are: Tim Riley, pop culture critic and author of Hard Rain: A Dylan Commentary. Eric Lott, professor of American Studies and Cultural Studies at Virginia University. It's widely accepted that Bob Dylan got the name of his album Love and Theft from Eric's book, Love and Theft: Blackface Minstrelsy and the American Working Class. Eric will give a presentation at this weekend's Dartmouth conference.
