Coast Guard Lieutenant JJ Fern sent more than a hundred letters to his mother during his World War II years in the South Pacific. He was a great writer and his daughter Julie Fern Patten has put the best letters into a new book titled Another Side of World War II. We're going to celebrate the 216th anniversary of the US Coast Guard with some tales of the Pacific, and talk with the captain of the US Coast Guard Cutter Eagle which is a Tall Ship, and makes its way to Portsmouth this weekend.
